Going Home

It has been said that “…you can never go home again.” Perhaps that has never been more true than this past holiday season of Covid-19. Wise counsel told us that traveling is dangerous and that sitting around tables with our at-risk family members is too risky to enjoy. Even if we were together, it wouldn’t be the same. And the reality of that old adage is even more true this year than every other year.

On the other hand, it’s not entirely true. What we have discovered is “home” is not limited to where we come from but it is also where we are and are going. Sherry and I help our clients buy and sell houses, condos, and townhomes. But what makes them homes are the people who inhabit them and their friends and family. Men and women who write their life stories one day at a time, with their sunrises, cups of coffee, zoom meetings and classrooms, sunsets and glasses of wine.  Those houses become homes when they are filled with laughter and love, heartache and tears, and friendships and family.

In 2020, we worked with more home buyers than in recent years. Many first time home buyers including singles, engaged, newlyweds, new or expecting parents, even a senior as a first time home buyer. All of our clients who bought had a unique journey and story to tell.  They all were ready to turn a house into a home.

I used to use the tag phrase, “Walking with you on your journey home” until someone suggested it sounded morbid. We still believe that is what we do. We walk with people as they discover the house where they will live and turn into a home. Where they will share their lives with close friends and family. It may look a lot like the house they grew up in, but most likely not. But the love in that house that makes it a home will be the same.

We are thankful for all the clients who shared their journey home with us this past year. And if you, or someone you know, are hopeful that 2021 brings new possibilities, let us walk you home too.
